The Inman Manufacturing Company was established in 1877, and was once a 5 building complex. The company made cardboard protective packaging such as egg cartons. It later became a machine shop. After the company closed down, the Leavenworth family, donated the building to the Guy Park Seniors and the seniors of Amsterdam. This was in 1983. After several years of renovating, from 1983 to 1986, the Center opened. It was incorporated and became the Horace J. Inman Senior Center in April 1986. Four buildings were knocked down, and the Center made building 5 it's home. The Guy Park Ave Seniors became the Inman Seniors and, while renovations continued on the second floor, they met on the ground floor for daily activities. Over the years, membership went from 1000 members to 100, with only one staff person remaining.

In the last 5 years, the Inman Center has seen an increase in membership and programs.  In response to the changing needs of our senior citizens,

The center now offers more programs in fitness and exercise, nutrition, recreation, computer classes and trips.

While maintaining it's standard bingo, card groups and low cost meals, it has moved into the 21st Century with updated computers, free efiling for taxes, Wii Bowling and more.

Other programs include AARP Defensive Driving Classes, offered several times a year, painting classes, crafts, Pickleball,

computer lessons including basic computer skills, internet and email and a wireless internet connection with computers for members use.

With one paid employee and many dedicated volunteers, the Inman Center coming back to life.  Newly painted, clean and bright, it is a wonderful place to spend the day or come for a specific activity.

The Center recently started offering Associate Memberships, for those people under age 55 who want to exercise, play Pickleball, or take Yoga Classes.

Associate members receive the same benefits as regular members, but cannot vote until they reach age 55.
